MSK Pain Problem - Shoulder impingement

Shoulder impingement is a common condition that occurs when the tendons or bursa in the shoulder joint are compressed or pinched during certain arm movements

Causes

  1. Repetitive overhead motions: Activities that involve repetitive overhead movements, such as throwing, swimming, or weightlifting, can lead to shoulder impingement over time.

  2. Poor posture: Rounded shoulders, forward head posture, or hunching can contribute to shoulder impingement by narrowing the space in the shoulder joint.

  3. Muscle imbalances: Weakness or imbalance in the muscles around the shoulder, particularly the rotator cuff muscles, can increase the likelihood of impingement.

  4. Anatomical factors: Certain individuals may have structural abnormalities in the shoulder joint, such as a hooked acromion or a bony spur, which can contribute to impingement.

Symptoms

  1. Pain:

  2. Limited range of motion

  3. Weakness

  4. Tenderness and swelling

Treatment

  1. Exercise

  2. manual therapy

  3. shockwave therapy

  4. IFT therapy
